The right-hand point break at the north end of the bay. Contest headquarters when there is a contest.

South end of Calle Pelícanos, past the cemetery
Sheltered cove just south of town, a scenic ten-minute walk past Villa Amor and through the cemetery. Rocky outcrops flank the sand, there is a roped-off swimming area, and vendors come by with fresh coconuts. Far calmer than the exposed beaches and the easiest swim near town.

Eco-luxury sanctuary on the coastal hillside south of town, known well beyond Nayarit. Open-air shalas look out over the jungle canopy and the ocean; the programme is mostly multi-day immersions led by visiting teachers rather than drop-in classes.

A raw, windswept stretch of golden sand 20 to 30 minutes southwest of town through the jungle, facing the open Pacific. One of the best sunset spots on this coast, with cliff scenery and no commercial amenities at all — bring shade and water. Heavy shorebreak and strong undertow: better for bodysurfing, picnics and watching the swell than for a casual swim.

A small cove between rocky headlands north of the main bay, reached by a jungle trail. Named for the passages and tunnels the sea has carved out of the rock; at low tide the channels open onto the neighbouring shores. Rocky coastline and strong swells, so time a visit around low tide for safe access.

A mile of undeveloped sand just north of town, reached by a 20-minute walk along the coastal jungle path. The trek keeps it quiet even in high season — forested hillsides, no facilities of any kind, and the boundary with San Pancho at the far end. Open ocean with strong currents and heavy surf; a beach for long walks rather than swimming.

Off-the-beaten-path beach south of Carricitos, ringed by dense coastal jungle and rocky bluffs. Known for the mix of golden and dark mineral sand and for being empty most of the time. Strong open-water swells and rip currents — go in with caution, or not at all.
